baby on the move

pregnancy,second trimester,ultrasound 28 August 2008 | Comments Off

Nineteen week update!  I feel the baby moving pretty much every day now.  The most prominently when I was 1) eating spicy salsa and 2) when I was in a room with really loud music.

Our ultrasound on Monday was amazing!  We got a good look at baby’s arms–complete with elbows, hands, and fingers.    Those little legs and feet have developed a lot since last time we peeked.  They were completely outstretched as if standing up!   And his or her lovely heartbeat is still beating strong.

We looked away while the technician checked for the sex, and baby cooperated so she got a good look. And then the results were sealed in an envelope for us to open on Sunday afternoon.  Surprisingly we haven’t been too tempted to open it up.  We’re afraid to watch the ultrasound video in case we accidently see something!

We’ll update again on Sunday…

fun and games

Tomorrow is our ultrasound appointment where we can find out the sex of the baby.  Since our family has a get-together planned this coming weekend, we decided to be clever about the results.  We’re going to ask the doctor to put a blue or pink ribbon in a sealed envelope that we won’t open until the family is together.  We’ll be posting the results here on Sunday afternoon.  Fun!

crown to rump!

pregnancy,second trimester 11 July 2008 | Comments Off

First trimester screen was this morning and it was all good stuff!  The baby is healthy and very bouncy and active.  And apparently has “a good nose” or so the technician remarked a few times!  He also said the baby was sticking his/her tongue out which means — already taking after Poppa!  (After that I laughed so hard we had trouble resuming the ultrasound.)

Crown to rump length is my new favorite.  Why do we ever stop recording this measurement?  Little foo’s is about 6.5 cm, which is just right for 12 weeks.

Yep, I am officially entering my second trimester!  People usually want to know if we want to find out the sex of the baby, and the answer is most definitely.  After all, a lot of this experience is going to be a surprise to us so we don’t feel the need to have one more!  Anyway, we’ll try to see in late August when I am between 18-20 weeks.

Video and pictures to come.

We saw our midwife today.  I was so anxious for my appointment that I didn’t sleep well last night, so as soon as I got home I really needed a nap.

We saw babyfoo moving around a bit this time.  We could very clearly see the head and arms waving around.  And a strong heartbeat, still around 170 bpm.  The crown-to-rump length is 2.47 centimeters, or just about one inch.  At 6.5 weeks it was .77 cm so the little peanut has more than tripled in size!  They still place my due date on January 23rd, which makes me 9 weeks and 4 days along.

Unfortunately no picture to share, because the machine wasn’t printing.  Now that I know their ultrasound equipment is better at the main office I will probably schedule my appointments accordingly.  It didn’t even occur to me that we could have video taped it!  Maybe next time.

8 thoughts at 8 weeks

  1. The baby’s size equivalent at 8 weeks is a cherry.
  2. The most bizarre baby size chart ever.
  3. My next ultrasound is scheduled for the 24th (10 weeks).
  4. I have a little more energy this week, but still nauseous in the evenings.
  5. No more pickles.  How quickly food turns on you.
  6. Daddyfoo is the best medicine, especially when he brings ginger ale.
  7. Shopping for clothes right now is cruel and unusual punishment.
  8. There is no way I can wait another 4 weeks before I tell everyone.

meet the babyfoo!

Today we got to see babyfoo’s tiny heartbeat, it was a strong 170 bps!  Our due date is projected to be January 23, 2009.  Daddyfoo seems like a happy, proud papa.   I am feeling good, a little nausea here and there and some bouts of fatigue. Last week I had a three-day headache because I cut out caffeine but thankfully that’s over.  I have been having food cravings and aversions.  Craving pickles and tuna.  The thought and sight of orange juice makes me feel extra queasy.
